Summer is great, isn’t it? We all love green grass, the great outdoors, time with the family, and food cooked on a grill. The downside is that there are some days in the summertime that creep into territory where you’re feeling like you’re on the grill yourself.
You want that sense of security knowing that your air conditioner is working well and keeping the inside of your home or business at a comfortable temperature. Sometimes things can go awry, or at the very least appear amiss. A common question and one you may have yourself is, “Why is my air conditioner leaking water?”
If you happen to be one of those people then you’ve come to the right place. Today United Water Restoration Group of Sterling would like to take this time today to talk about some of the reasons why your air conditioner is leaking water, and what you can do about it.
Condensation is a common thing to see by an air conditioner during the summer. The hotter the day, the more condensation will be around the unit. Condensation itself isn’t a problem, but it can become a problem if you find that the air conditioner is leaking water more than it should. Here are some of the common causes of excessive AC water leaking:
Your air conditioner’s filter can become clogged over time which will cause your evaporator coils to freeze. This results in more water flowing to the drainage pan, possibly overflowing in serious situations.
When your air conditioner is operating normally, some water drainage is to be expected. If this drain were to become backed up, the water will have nowhere to go and simply flood out, leaving behind a wet mess.
Low levels of refrigerant (freon) in your air conditioner can lead to a loss of pressure and internal freezing. This can, and usually will result in a lot of excess water when the ice thaws if it runs over the drain pan.
